Dear
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The recent visit of Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, to the United States
was uplifting and inspiring. His joy and warmth were contagious and his
words of encouragement, hopeful.
Mindful that Pope Benedict cares for and has concern for the entire global
community; this year’s Peter’s Pence Collection offers us an opportunity
to return the favor of his visit to us and to support his ministry to the
world. The theme for this year’s worldwide Peter’s Pence Collection is
the same that marked his apostolic visit to the United States – “Christ Our
Hope.” Pope Benedict invites us all to renew our faith in Christ, who is
the hope of our eternal salvation, the “great hope” that sustains us and people
of faith in our trials and triumphs.
Knowing that we pray for Our Holy Father each day and for his ministry, I ask
you to make a gift to the 2008 Peter’s Pence Collection, mindful that it
is an expression of solidarity with him in his care for the people of the world
who turn to him for relief and support in their physical needs.
With gratitude for your goodness and the hope that you always be blessed, I
remain
Sincerely
in our Lord,
John B.

The Good News Reading group has finished Mother Theresa's book and will not meet again until September. Please watch the bulletin for information about what book they will be reading in the fall.
Eco-Tip
It's amazing how many of us living in
the same community travel the same route each day in separate vehicles. Consider carpooling. NH Rideshare has information on alternative transportation. Visit
http://www.nh.gov/dot/nhrideshare/
for more information about carpooling
with others in your area.

You are invited to attend the
Magnificat Pilgrimage of Hope, a two-day renewal of faith celebrating the
Archdiocese of Boston Bicentennial, on Saturday October 11 and Sunday, October
12 in Boston, MA.
Pilgrimage of Hope attendees will
hear from leading Catholic thinkers in 16 specialized sessions on a range of
faith topics, including: The Eucharist;
the Scriptures; Lectio Divina; the saints; ancient Christian writers; sacred
music and art; Catholic parenting; and the theological virtue of hope. Attendees will join together for two
celebrations of the Holy Mass, prayers for the morning and evening, a Saturday
evening concert, a Sunday brunch and a special presentation on the 150th
anniversary of Our Lady's apparition in Lourdes, France.
Fall Adult Confirmation
November 2, 2008
with Bishop Christian
Sacred Heart Church, Concord
If you are an adult who has received the
Sacrament of Eucharist and Reconciliation and would like to complete your full
initiation into the Church with the Sacrament of Confirmation, please contact
the Parish Office. There will be an
Adult Confirmation Program for people 18 and over who regularly attend Mass,
but who have never received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Food Pantries in need
Financial times are tough all over, but perhaps no where as difficult as in the food pantries that serve our area families. Please consider bringing some non-perishable foods to the bins in the Narthex. These items are collected regularly and taken to the food pantry.

Pastor's
Notes:
Last week I began explaining some of
the points of the Mass that or often overlooked or misunderstood. I'll continue this week with a few more
tips. If you ever have questions about
what is happening or how things should be done please ask me, or one of the
deacons.
Eucharistic Ministers on the altar should not cross behind the altar until the celebrant
consumes the Body and Blood. At that
point the Altar Servers and Eucharistic Ministers may cross to the back of the
altar where they will receive
During the Lord's Prayer many people like to hold hands with their neighbors, but break apart
before the end of the prayer. If you
choose to hold hands during the Our Father, please remain joined until the
prayer ends. Following the Our Father is
the Sign of Peace, and holding hands is a good way to lead into offering fellow
parishioners the Sign of Peace. If you
are uncomfortable holding hands, this is not mandatory, and the Sign of Peace
does not have to be a handshake.
Children are an important part of our celebration, and most people enjoy seeing the future of our faith
participating. If your child is
restless, or needs a break, please take them to the Narthex where you can still
see the Mass through the glass wall and hear it through the speakers. If you do not have children, please be
patient with parents who are trying to teach their children proper behavior
during Mass.
Cell Phones and Pagers
should be silenced during Mass.
Please either turn them off, or put them on mute so they are not
disruptive. Also, please refrain from
texting, even though this is a mostly silent activity, it is not appropriate
during Mass.
