Community Blood Drive:
The Community Blood Drive on August
20th was a great success. 91 people came
to donate, 80 pints of blood were collected and we had 4 new donors. Thank you to all who came to donate blood, to
all the volunteers who generously gave their time and to those who prepared
sandwiches and fruit for the donors. Our
next Blood Drive is Monday, December 15th.
Women's Group Meeting
Wednesday, September
10th
St. Theresa Parish
The Women's Group is having a meeting on
Wednesday, September 10th to start planning for Fall
events, and continue in fellowship.
Please consider attending this meeting, even if you haven't come before. This fall the Women's Group will host a
Stamping Workshop, an Internet Safety Workshop, a
Women's Bible Study and will continue to pray for and support the other
committees of the parish. This is a
wonderful way to get involved in parish life, meet interesting, faith-filled
women and enjoy fellowship. If you have
any questions, please contact Pat Robillard at 746-5669 or the parish office
for more information. Watch the bulletin for more details of upcoming events.
Eco-Tip of the weekThe importance of Water Conservation
The world grows more than enough food to sustain the global population, but half of that food is wasted -- and thus half of the water used in food production is wasted as well, says a new report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, International Water Management Institute, and Stockholm Water Management Institute. In developing countries, food spoils or is damaged by insects; in developed countries, it's more often just tossed out. The United States and other industrialized countries throw out some 30 percent of their food each year, says the report: "That corresponds to [10.6 trillion gallons] of irrigation water, enough water to meet the household needs of 500 million people." The organizations call for a 50 percent reduction in global food waste by 2025, pointing out that 1 billion people already live with insufficient water. "Unless we change our practices," says the FAO's Pasquale Steduto, "water will be a key constraint to food production in the future." Water conservation is becoming increasingly important in our global society.
