St. Theresa Photo Directory

St. Theresa Parish is putting together a new family photo directory. Please consider bringing your families in for photos. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex for January and February. This is not a fund-raiser; this is simply an effort to strengthen our community.  Frequently, we know parishioners by sight, but don't know their names or we see names in the bulletin and don't know who they are.  Many times people call the office wanting addresses to send sympathy cards, or personal notes to parishioners and because of privacy laws, we are unable to provide them.  This directory will make it possible for people to communicate as part of the larger community. This is our opportunity to put names to faces.  There will be many opportunities on weekends and evenings to have photos taken, so please schedule an appointment at the sign-in table in the Narthex.

What Catholics Should Know about the Death Penalty: A Parish Educational Program March 25th - 7:00 p.m.

St. Theresa Parish Hall

What is Catholic teaching on the death penalty?  Catholic teaching on the death penalty has been clarified for our modern times, and there often are misconceptions about the position of the Catholic Church on the use of capital punishment.  The Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Manchester and New Hampshire Catholic Charities have collaborated to develop a parish educational program to provide Catholics and others with an overview of Catholic teaching on the death penalty as well as information about the use and effects of capital punishment in the United States.  The program will include a DVD developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops that features compelling stories of victims’ families and interviews that explain Catholic teaching.  The DVD also suggests ways to pray, learn, educate, and advocate regarding the death penalty.  The presentations will include guided discussion by NHCC Parish Social Ministers.

Week for Christian Unity

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins in one week, on Monday, January 18, and continues through Monday, January 25. The theme for 2010 is "You Are Witnesses of These Things". Use the Daily Scripture and Prayer Guide to join with Christians around the world praying "that all may be one... that the world may believe" (John 17:21).

Spiritual Adoptees

Once again it is time to spiritually adopt children conceived to be born in October.  Please fill out the form below and place the completed form in the collection basket.  These names will be placed at the feet of Mary during February.  Please fill out a form, and then pray this simple prayer daily.

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.  I beg you to save the life of the unborn baby that I have Spiritually Adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

I, __________________ pledge to spiritually adopt my unborn brother/sister in Christ today.  I pledge to intercede on his/her behalf to be spared from abortion by praying the ten-second prayer by Bishop Fulton Sheen; I spiritually name him/her _____________________.

Theology on Tap

January 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Murphy's Taproom, Manchester

Are you in your 20s or 30s and looking for an opportunity to learn more about your faith and meet other young adult Catholics in New Hampshire? Meet us at Murphy’s Taproom on Elm Street in Manchester on January 12, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. Our guest speaker is Sr. Lorraine Aucoin, p.m., Vocation Director for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, and we'll discuss how to combat consumer greed.

Women's Ministries

The Women's Ministries thank all who baked the beautiful and delicious treats for our annual bake sale.  We also are most grateful for all who supported us in purchasing those low-calorie baked goods.  Our tables were full to overflowing on Saturday and empty after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday.  Each year at our bake sale we sponsor St. Marie's Bookstore so as to be a convenient way for you to shop for quality Catholic literature, religious items and gifts.  Thank you for supporting them, as well.  Your help with our fundraisers allows us to be generous to many in our parish and communities to further our mission to be Christ for one another.

Seminarian Fund Collection
January 16-17, 2010

A vocation is more than a job, more than a career or a hobby. The word vocation means “a calling.” It is a calling from God to serve. The men of New Hampshire who have heard God’s call to the priesthood did not come to their decisions suddenly. They discovered they had a vocation through many years of formation in parish and family life. But even after one gets the call, the journey has just begun. Please remember our seminarians in your prayers, and offer your support to the Seminarian Fund.

2009 Tax Statements

If you use contribution envelopes for donations, the church can provide you with a statement of your donations for tax purposes.  Please contact the parish office to have this statement mailed during January.  If you do not use contribution envelopes, we cannot issue a tax statement.  If you would like to start using envelopes, please contact the parish office.

Reporting Abuse

If you or anyone you know has been sexually abused as a minor by a priest, deacon or member of a religious institute, or Church employee or volunteer, we encourage you to report the matter to the Division for Children, Youth and Families at 800-894-5533 and/or local law enforcement.

The Diocese of Manchester's Office for Healing and Pastoral Care offers pastoral support, outreach and professional assistance to persons and families of those persons who report having been sexually abused by people representing the Church.  The Office for Healing and Pastoral Care can be contacted at 603-668-0014, ext 233 or 1/800-475-5585, ext 233 or at jnaff@nh-cc.org.

Adult Confirmation Preparation

The Diocese of Manchester will offer the Sacrament of Confirmation for Adults on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester at 2 p.m. This is for any practicing Roman Catholic over the age of 18 in good standing with the church that has not been previously Confirmed. Contact Fr. Mark for more information.

Prayer Chain Update

At the beginning of January, we removed names from the prayer chain for both parishes.  This is in an effort to keep the prayer chain current.  If you would like to add the name of a loved one, please contact the parish office.  Due to privacy laws, we cannot add names without permission from the person to be added, or a family member.  Some people would rather not see their name on the prayer chain, this is why we request permission from a family member.  We will print first and last names on the prayer chain, on the previous prayer chain initials were used and this caused a great deal of confusion, so please be prepared with the full name when you call the office.
