St. Theresa Photo Directory

St. Theresa Parish is putting together a new family photo directory. Please consider bringing your families in for photos. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex for January and February. This is not a fund-raiser; this is simply an effort to strengthen our community.  Frequently, we know parishioners by sight, but don't know their names or we see names in the bulletin and don't know who they are.  Many times people call the office wanting addresses to send sympathy cards, or personal notes to parishioners and because of privacy laws, we are unable to provide them.  This directory will make it possible for people to communicate as part of the larger community. This is our opportunity to put names to faces.  There will be many opportunities on weekends and evenings to have photos taken, so please schedule an appointment at the sign-in table in the Narthex.

Thank you from the Social Committee

Thank you to everyone who helped with the annual Christmas Craft Fair and Café.  Many people baked, brought in crafts and came to enjoy the day.  All money raised from the Christmas Craft Fair and Café is used to sponsor the monthly coffee and donuts as well as the annual Parish Picnic.

Vocations Committee

Jesus called each one of us to a vocation, not just our priests and religious.  Our Church needs committed lay ministers to spread the Gospel in our world.  Some of us have heard the word of God preached by lay ministers at a special time of year in our parishes.  Ask yourself  - how can I serve?  Do you have your 'shoulder to the wheel' - are you pulling your 'oar in the ship of our Lord'?  Can you befriend the lonely, visit the sick, assist the elderly?  Christ said "I came to serve, not to be served.  How about you?

What Catholics Should Know about the Death Penalty: A Parish Educational Program March 25th - 7:00 p.m.                                   St. Theresa Parish Hall

What is Catholic teaching on the death penalty?  Catholic teaching on the death penalty has been clarified for our modern times, and there often are misconceptions about the position of the Catholic Church on the use of capital punishment.  The Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Manchester and New Hampshire Catholic Charities have collaborated to develop a parish educational program to provide Catholics and others with an overview of Catholic teaching on the death penalty as well as information about the use and effects of capital punishment in the United States.  The program will include a DVD developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops that features compelling stories of victims’ families and interviews that explain Catholic teaching.  The DVD also suggests ways to pray, learn, educate, and advocate regarding the death penalty.  The presentations will include guided discussion by NHCC Parish Social Ministers.

Homeless Shelter needs donations

During the winter months, there is a homeless shelter in Concord for people who need shelter.  They are asking for donations of sample sized soaps, shampoo, disposable razors, warm socks, gloves, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, etc.  If you can make a donation, please leave items in the box located in the Narthex.  Thank you.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

We have 6 prayer shawls available.  If you know anyone who would be comforted by a blessed shawl and the prayers that accompany it, please contact Jeannine Aucoin or the parish office.  In addition to knitted and crocheted shawls, we will also accept quilted shawls.  For information on the Prayer Shawl Ministry please look on the Women's Ministries bulletin board.

2009 Tax Statements

If you use contribution envelopes for donations, the church can provide you with a statement of your donations for tax purposes.  Please contact the parish office to have this statement mailed during January.  If you do not use contribution envelopes, we cannot issue a tax statement.  If you would like to start using envelopes, please contact the parish office.

Adult Confirmation Preparation

The Diocese of Manchester will offer the Sacrament of Confirmation for Adults on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester at 2 p.m. This is for any practicing Roman Catholic over the age of 18 in good standing with the church that has not been previously Confirmed. Contact Fr. Mark for more information.

Plymouth State University presents

Godspell

January 27-31

call 535-ARTS for more information.

A cast of over 60 Community Members from 8 - 54 will sing and dance this theatrical retelling of the Book of Matthew.

Prayer Chain Update

At the beginning of January, we removed names from the prayer chain for both parishes.  This is in an effort to keep the prayer chain current.  If you would like to add the name of a loved one, please contact the parish office.  Due to privacy laws, we cannot add names without permission from the person to be added, or a family member.  Some people would rather not see their name on the prayer chain, this is why we request permission from a family member.  We will print first and last names on the prayer chain; on the previous prayer chain initials were used and this caused a great deal of confusion, so please be prepared with the full name when you call the office.

Year End Financial Planning

Please remember the church in your financial plans for the coming year.  Bequests, donations and gifts can be used towards the building fund or you can request that the money be used towards purchasing fuel, day to day running of the parish or special projects.  If you would like to give a gift to the church, please contact the parish office, or speak to Fr. Mark directly.

Week for Christian Unity

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins, on Monday, January 18, and continues through Monday, January 25. The theme for 2010 is "You Are Witnesses of These Things". Use the Daily Scripture and Prayer Guide to join with Christians around the world praying "that all may be one... that the world may believe" (John 17:21).

Seminarian Fund Collection
January 16-17, 2010

A vocation is more than a job, more than a career or a hobby. The word vocation means “a calling.” It is a calling from God to serve. The men of New Hampshire who have heard God’s call to the priesthood did not come to their decisions suddenly. They discovered they had a vocation through many years of formation in parish and family life. But even after one gets the call, the journey has just begun. Please remember our seminarians in your prayers, and offer your support to the Seminarian Fund.

To the members of St. Mary Parish,

On behalf of the US service members stationed in Iraq, please accept my heartfelt thanks for your support, prayers, Christmas cards and thoughtful supplies and gifts.  All are much appreciated.  We are working hard every day to help make Iraq a better place for its citizens.  Since the war began six years ago Iraq has become more secure and the living conditions have improved across the country.  May all the members of St. Mary's have a wonderful and safe holiday season.
