Vocations Committee

What is a sister?  A sister lives in a religious community that follows a constantly renewed tradition, patterned on the life and teaching of the founder of the community.  The work she generally does will depend upon the ministries of that community as influenced by the needs of the Church and its people.  For example:  teaching, social work, administration, nursing, peace and justice ministry are a few common ministries for sisters.  Does the lifestyle of a Sister sound attractive to you?  Contact the Diocesan Vocations Office at 669-3100 for more information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

We have 6 prayer shawls available.  If you know anyone who would be comforted by a blessed shawl and the prayers that accompany it, please contact Jeannine Aucoin or the parish office.  In addition to knitted and crocheted shawls, we will also accept quilted shawls.  For information on the Prayer Shawl Ministry please look on the Women's Ministries bulletin board.

Homeless Shelter needs donations

During the winter months, there is a homeless shelter in Concord for people who need shelter.  They are asking for donations of sample sized soaps, shampoo, disposable razors, warm socks, gloves, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, etc.  If you can make a donation, please leave items in the box located in the Narthex.  Thank you.

Eco-Tip of the Week

We have been blessed this year with less snow than usual, so many people can get out and walk, as the sidewalks are clear.  Take a garbage bag and a pair of gloves with you on your walk to pick up loose trash on the side of the road.  It is a simple way to make your corner of the world more eco-friendly.

St. Theresa Photo Directory

St. Theresa Parish is putting together a new family photo directory. Please consider bringing your families in for photos. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex for February. This is not a fund-raiser; this is simply an effort to strengthen our community.  Frequently, we know parishioners by sight, but don't know their names or we see names in the bulletin and don't know who they are.  Many times people call the office wanting addresses to send sympathy cards, or personal notes to parishioners and because of privacy laws, we are unable to provide them.  This directory will make it possible for people to communicate as part of the larger community. This is our opportunity to put names to faces.  There will be many opportunities on weekends and evenings to have photos taken, so please schedule an appointment at the sign-in table in the Narthex.

Villa Augustina Open House

Wednesday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Villa Augustina School has been providing excellence in Catholic education since 1918.  The school is an NEASC accredited, independent Catholic school open to families of all faiths with children in pre-school (3 year olds) through eighth grade.  Our mission is to be a community embracing Christian values, academic excellence and loving service consistent with the Catholic Church and the charism of St. Claudine Thevenet.  The Villa strives to offer enrichment to its students from small class sizes, a challenging junior high curriculum, to special topic courses and affordable before and after care.  The Villa is a destination that provides a foundation for a lifetime!  For more information please call 497-2361 to set up a private tour or check us out online by visiting www.villaaugustina.org.

Please return your palms

Please consider returning last year's palms to the baskets in the church.  Every year, Fr. Mark burns the previous years palms to make ashes for Ash Wednesday.  Since they are blessed, they need to be burned and cannot be thrown away.  Baskets will be in each church until Early February.

It’s time for Mardi Gras!!  Won’t you join us?

February 6, 2010 6:00 p.m.

at CR Sparks in Bedford

New Hampshire Catholic Charities’ Mardi Gras Benefit raises urgently needed funds to assist families and individuals in an emergency.  Mardi Gras is a great party – that helps our neighbors in a time of crisis.

Reserve your tickets for a fabulous New Orleans style dinner, dancing, games and silent auction.  Tickets are $85 per person or $850 for a table.  Call 603-669-3030 and ask for Judy.

 2009 Tax Statements

If you use contribution envelopes for donations, the church can provide you with a statement of your donations for tax purposes.  Please contact the parish office to have this statement mailed during January.  If you do not use contribution envelopes, we cannot issue a tax statement.  If you would like to start using envelopes, please contact the parish office.

Prayer Chain Update

At the beginning of January, we removed names from the prayer chain for both parishes.  This is in an effort to keep the prayer chain current.  If you would like to add the name of a loved one, please contact the parish office.  Due to privacy laws, we cannot add names without permission from the person to be added, or a family member.  Some people would rather not see their name on the prayer chain, this is why we request permission from a family member.  We will print first and last names on the prayer chain; on the previous prayer chain initials were used and this caused a great deal of confusion, so please be prepared with the full name when you call the office.

Catholic Relief Services Collection

to Benefit Haiti

For the next several weeks there will be collection baskets in the back of each parish for donations to Catholic Relief Services and the work they are doing in Haiti.  This money is sent directly to Catholic Relief Services.  All monies will be collected and deposited at the end of the month.

If you would like to make a donation with a check, please make the check payable to:

St. Theresa Parish or St. Mary Parish

or

Catholic Relief Services

Thank you for your generous support.

Pastor's Notes

The Capital Campaign Improvements are moving right along.  The flooring project in the parish hall has been a little more extensive than previously thought.  The weak spots on the floor were to be replaced, however, the entire floor, including the kitchen and bathroom, were found to have significant rot.  The entire floor needed to be replaced.  Our Social Committee selected the color of the flooring and new tables and chairs have been purchased.  Be sure to check out the quality hard work that Eaton's Flooring has put into this project.

So far - we have been able to repair and enamel the church roof, clean and disinfect the heating and air conditioning ducts, replace the church furnace, install a new sound system and install a new fire detection and alarm system. Eventually the church will be re-carpeted.  The color of the carpeting will be determined by the parishioners.

Please know that all of this work has been accomplished by your generosity and dedication to St. Mary Parish and the Capital Campaign Fund.  If you haven't already pledged or given, please consider making a pledge or one-time gift to the parish for Capital Improvements.  Please contact the parish office or see the yellow pledge forms at the back of the church for more information about making a pledge or one time gift.
