St. Theresa Photo Directory

St. Theresa Parish is putting together a new family photo directory. Please consider bringing your families in for photos. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex for February. This is not a fund-raiser; this is simply an effort to strengthen our community.  Frequently, we know parishioners by sight, but don't know their names or we see names in the bulletin and don't know who they are.  Many times people call the office wanting addresses to send sympathy cards, or personal notes to parishioners and because of privacy laws, we are unable to provide them.  This directory will make it possible for people to communicate as part of the larger community. This is our opportunity to put names to faces.  There will be many opportunities on weekends and evenings to have photos taken, so please schedule an appointment at the sign-in table in the Narthex.

Eco-Tip of the Week

Concerned About Copenhagen, Pope Benedict XVI Urges New Agreement

In an address to the diplomatic corps serving the Holy See, Pope Benedict reiterated themes from his World Day of Peace Message and also said,  "I share the growing concern caused by economic and political resistance to combating the degradation of the environment.  This problem was evident [at the meeting in Denmark last December]."  He expressed hope that an agreement will be reached in the Bonn and Mexico City meetings this year.

He continued to make clear the connections between the respect for human life and respect for Creation.  "If we wish to build true peace, how can we separate, or even set at odds, the protection of the environment and the protection of human life, including the life of the unborn? It is in man's respect for himself that his sense of responsibility for creation is shown."

Pastor's Notes

It was brought to my attention that a lot of activities that happen in the parish are geared to women.  Over the last decade I have tried to get men of the parish involved in either Knights of Columbus or a men's spiritual group, but it never comes to fruition.  If there are requests for a group to form, or events to be sponsored, please let me know that you are interested to take a leadership role to make it a reality.  I am very happy to support the men of the parish in faith building, or even social activities.

Spiritual Adoptees

Once again it is time to spiritually adopt children conceived to be born in October.  Please fill out the form below and place the completed form in the collection basket.  These names will be placed at the feet of Mary during February.  Please fill out a form, and then pray this simple prayer daily.

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.  I beg you to save the life of the unborn baby that I have Spiritually Adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

I, __________________ pledge to spiritually adopt my unborn brother/sister in Christ today.  I pledge to intercede on his/her behalf to be spared from abortion by praying the ten-second prayer by Bishop Fulton Sheen; I spiritually name him/her

Capital Campaign Update

Recently a reminder was mailed to all parishioners that promised a gift during the feasibility study, but for whatever reason have not made a pledge or gift.  Also, all of the parishioners who haven't given at this point were asked once again, if they would be willing to give even $1 per week for the next three years.  We'll need everyone's involvement and stewardship to make our campaign a success!

In the near future all of the pews will be re-spaced to create more room between each pew.  (Only one row will need to be sacrificed).  Also, new lightweight kneelers will be installed, making it easier and quieter to use.  Bookracks will be installed on the backside of the pews, providing us with a higher seating capacity by getting the hymnals off of the pews.  The front row kneeler will be reduced to only the outer halves, providing space for wheelchairs or other situations of disability, as well as a better space for caskets during funerals.

Thank you from Food Pantry

Dear St. Mary Parishioners,

We Thank you for your continuing and generous food drive to benefit the pantry so we can be sure our neighbors are fed.  Thank you also to those who donate dollars for the same purpose.  We are grateful too, for Russ and Phebe's faithful pick-up and delivery service.  It has been a very busy fall/winter, but with your help we are sure we will be able to keep up with the needs.

Sincerely,

Dave & Norma Hubbard for the Hillsboro Food Pantry.
