Regulations for Fast and Abstinence

Good Friday, April 2nd is a day of fast and abstinence.  Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence.

Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday.  On a fast day, one full meal is allowed.  Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.  Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.

Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older.  On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed.  Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.  When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, Fr. Mark should be consulted.

Pastor’s Notes

Bishop McCormack has assigned me to do an additional term of two years as Dean of the Capital Deanery, so it looks like I don't get to return to my status of "Rev." just yet.  Keep praying for this "Very Rev." - I'm going to need the prayers.

Don't forget that next weekend we change our clocks - Spring Forward one hour!  Oh, that 7:30 a.m. Mass is going to be tough!!

From this point forward it is the wish of the bishop that all scripture will be proclaimed by trained lectors for all liturgical celebrations including weddings and funerals.  Many of our lectors have already volunteered for these new responsibilities.  Please contact the office if you are available to read for weddings or funerals.

Pastor's Notes

Last week a letter was mailed to all registered parishioners with a ballot to choose the color for the new carpeting in the church.  There is a sample board at the back of the church and you will receive a ballot in the mail.  Please take a moment to look over the samples, choose your favorite and fill in the number that represents your selection the ballot.  Return the ballot to the ballot box near the sample board.  The results will be posted in a future bulletin.  Thank you for your help in selecting the new carpet for your church home.
